What Is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Based on a system that has evolved over thousands of years, the foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that energy known as qi flows throughout the body via pathways called meridians. The idea is that if qi flow is blocked or unbalanced along these meridians, then illnesses and problems occur.

Effectiveness of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture, Tai Chi, and traditional herbal products have all proven effective in treating illnesses and other bodily issues.

Studies have shown that acupuncture can treat many different types of chronic pain, from lower back and neck pain to osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel.

Tai Chi, which combines certain techniques to encourage qi flow, has been found to improve stability and balance within seniors and those suffering from Parkinson’s alongside treating pain like osteoarthritis.

Finally, Chinese herbal products haven’t had any concrete studies done on them but are used to treat a wide variety of conditions, from stroke and heart disease to respiratory issues.

Uses of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine has a wide variety of uses concerning illnesses and problems; these include things like asthma, allergies, and even infertility. Other treatments, like cupping or massage (known as tui na in TCM), are used to better stimulate and regulate qi flow in order for the body to heal itself and restore balance.
